Don't forget to keep your work and numbers organized :-)
Hello! Today we worked on section 3.5 using equations to solve word problems. The most important thing when working with word problems is to identify what information is given in the problem and what you need to find out. The information you are looking for is usually going to be represented by a variable when writing out the equation and the other bits of information included in the problem are the other pieces of the equation.
We briefly looked at section 3.6 using numbers and inequalities. We covered the different sets of numbers but class ended before we got to example 2 on page 117. Please go over this example where students will need to determine whether the solution to the equation would belong to the set of numbers the question identifies. Students will need to read through the different forms of inequalities listed at the top of p. 118 and go over example 3. In this example, students will need to substitute the given numbers into the given inequalities to determine if the number makes the statement true or false.
For homework, students need to complete the assignment for section 3.5 and then complete the assignment for 3.6 after you go over the items mentioned above. Please let me know if you have any questions!
